San Antonio Athenians SC is proud to welcome midfielder Helene Farris back to the squad for the upcoming UWS season.

Athenians Head Coach Reinaldo Lima de Siqueira describes Farris as “a very talented young player, who was a big part of last season’s championship-winning team.” He continued to say “the highlight of her game is her quality with the ball, she has excellent technique and that was an important factor in our decision to bring her back for the new season.”

Farris, a graduate of Smithson Valley High School, was named the 2018-19 NEISD Freshman of the year and was selected to the all-district 1st team 3 times in her career with the Lady Rangers. She is a member of the UTSA Roadrunners squad that went 10-5-4 in 2021 and won a postseason match for the first time in program history. Farris was redshirted for the season but showed well in preseason matches against local D1 opposition, including scoring against the University of the Incarnate Word in a 3-1 win. Farris is set to play a big role for head coach Derek Pittman going forward into 2022.

In her first season with the Athenians, Farris started every game she was available for, making 9 starts and providing 1 assist. She was named to the UWS Team of the Week in week 1 for a solid performance in a 3-0 season-opening win. The 2021 Athenians squad made history, going 9-1 in the UWS south region and winning the regional playoff against Side FC 92 and Lone Star Republic. The Athenians made their first ever appearance on the national stage with a semifinal match against Santa Clarita Blue Heat in Round Rock Texas at the UWS National Championship.

Farris is the first announced member of the Athenians 2022 squad. Stay tuned to the club’s website and social media channels for further announcements.
