Iban Lopez, new Women's Soccer Director

Iban Lopez Named New Women's Soccer Director for San Antonio Athenians

San Antonio Athenians are pleased to announce that Iban Lopez has been appointed as the new Women's Soccer Director since May 2023.

Lopez, who joined the University of South Florida (USF) in 2016 as a volunteer assistant, has served as the assistant coach for the past two years (at USF) and has decades of experience coaching in Spain and the U.S.

Lopez, with his tactician skills and dedication, played a crucial role in organizing the team during its five NCAA tournament runs in the past. He has been invaluable for the team in coaching and adapting the training methodology and preparation for training. His contributions have helped the team win two AAC Championships and make three NCAA tournament appearances over the last five years.

Lopez spent 20 years coaching in Spain and the U.S., earning a UEFA Pro license in 2016. Prior to joining USF, he served as the director of soccer academy at CD Conxo in Spain.

"He brings decades of coaching experience in both the U.S. and Spain and is playing an important role in the develptment of our women's soccer program.
